Marithé François Girbaud

Marithé François Girbaud and two French fashion designers, where the eponymous fashion brand belongs ( Marithé François Girbaud ).

Life

Marithé Bachellerie (* 1942 in Lyon) is the daughter of a professional cyclist. François Girbaud (* 1945 in Mazamet (Tarn ) comes from a family of textile workers of Arnette Valley.

Career

Prior to founding her own brand imported Girbaud jeans from the United States, while Bachellerie sold handmade ponchos. They met in Paris in 1964 and worked a little later together. Her first product line consisted of blue jeans that have been treated with a special process so that they looked indeed washed out, but not in ausbleichten further use. They are regarded as the inventor of the stonewash process.

The individual models were called " la Goulue ", " compagnon ", " Toulouse- Lautrec " and " pépère ".

The jeans were a great sales success. After Jennifer Beals wore a pair of jeans of their brand in the movie Flashdance in 1982, they succeeded in entering the U.S. market.

In 2005, the brand was rocked by a scandal, as representatives of the churches spoke out against world-wide one of them switched advertisement that was modeled after the Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci, the apostles were represented by women in jeans fashion brand. In France, the advertising was banned by the Supreme Court, on appeal, the ban was abolished in 2006. The company nevertheless to not receive these ads again decided.

In 2010 the company introduced a water- saving produced jeans.

The Marithé François Girbaud brand is sold in France, in Europe and worldwide in numerous boutiques. The flagship store of the brand is in the Rue Etienne Marcel in Paris 38. In Dusseldorf, the company has a showroom.
