Mark Donskoy

Mark Semenovich Donskoy (Russian Марк Семёнович Донской; * 21 Februarjul / March 6 1901greg in Odessa, Russian Empire, now Ukraine, .. † 24 March 1981 Moscow) was a Soviet film director and screenwriter.

Life

Donskoi studied medicine, law and music and initially wrote stage plays. He was born in 1926 on the film, worked as a screenwriter and as an editor, and directed several short films. Together with the director Mikhail Averbakh he turned from 1928 -length films and was from the 1930s to the " tip guard of film directors in the USSR". Among his most important works is the so-called Gorky trilogy, which was from 1938 to 1940.

Donskoy works are characterized by their realism and psychological credibility. He turned next to literary adaptations also works with contemporary issues.

Awards

For Foma Gordeev Donskoi was awarded in 1960 at the International Film Festival of Locarno as a best director with the Vela d' Argento.

The mother ran in 1956 in competition at the International Film Festival of Cannes. At the International Film Festival of Cannes 1972 Donskoi was a member of the festival jury.
