Mark Funkhouser

Mark Funkhouser ( born 1950 ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party and former mayor of Kansas City, Missouri.

Funkhouser grew up in West Virginia. He attended Tennessee State University and the University of Missouri- Kansas City. In 1988 he was auditor of the city. In late 2006 he announced that he is running for mayor. His candidacy, he announced in the Kansas City Star. During the election campaign Funkhouser wore as a tribute to his Ukrainian roots and the Orange Revolution, an orange tie. On 27 March 2007 he beat his rival candidate Alvin Brooks with just a little more than 1,000 votes difference.

His term began on May 1, 2007 and ended on 2 May 2011, after he had already failed at re-election attempt in the Primary. His successor was the independent candidate Sly James.
