Mark H. Sibley

Mark Hopkins Sibley (* 1796 in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, † September 8, 1852 in Canandaigua, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1837 and 1839 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Mark Hopkins Sibley completed his preliminary studies. He studied law. After receiving his license to practice law in 1814 he began to practice in Canandaigua. He sat in 1834 and 1835 in the New York State Assembly. Politically he belonged to the Whig party. In the congressional elections of 1836 for the 25th Congress Sibley was in the 26th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Francis Granger on March 4, 1837. He retired after March 3, 1839, from from the Congress. In 1841 he sat in the Senate from New York. He was 1847-1851 Judge in Ontario County. He then practiced as a lawyer again. He died about four years after the end of the Mexican - American War in Canandaigua. His body was then buried at the West Avenue Cemetery.
