Mark Philo

Mark William Philo ( born October 5, 1984 in Bracknell, † January 14, 2006 in Reading ) was an English footballer.

Career

Philo went through the youth department of Wycombe Wanderers and reached in the 2001/ 02 season with the U- 19, the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup, the best result in the club's history. In the summer of 2003 he received his first professional contract and made his debut under coach Tony Adams in February 2004 in the Football League Second Division. By the end of the season Philo came on twelve missions, primarily in right midfield; to three of his four Startelfeinsätze this season he brought it to the last three days, as the descent into the Football League Two had already been decided. In a preparation match for the following season he suffered a broken ankle, the back threw the young players, and only in March 2005 allowed for his comeback. As in the previous season he was on the last season game days again in the starting lineup, but he suffered last season game a stress fracture that kept him away again for several months from the game. Nevertheless, his performance moved the club managers to equip him with a contract again. Philo came in the 2005 /06 two appearances in the Football League Trophy and tried to catch up with the starting eleven when he died in a car accident on 14 January 2006 killed.

As the investigation into the accident showed itself Philo had set after a pub crawl with a .12 percent blood alcohol at the wheel of his car and was in Finchampstead collided in Wokingham with an oncoming car after he had fallen into the opposite lane. While the driver of the other vehicle still died at the accident scene, Philo was admitted with serious injuries in the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, where he died in the afternoon. The Wycombe Wanderers detained after his death his jersey with shirt number 14, which has since no longer awarded.
