Mark Veens

Mark Hermanus Maria Veen ( born June 26, 1978 in Venray ) is a Dutch swimmer.

Career

Mark Veen took from 1996 to 2004 at three Summer Olympics in part. He qualified only as part of the Dutch 4 × 100 meter freestyle and 2000 in Sydney, in addition to the 4 × 100 meter medley relay.

In Atlanta in 1996, he finished together with Pie Geelen, Martin van der Spoel and Pieter van den Hoogenband about 4 × 100 meter freestyle fifth place.

Four years later, in 2000 in Sydney, he was with the 4 × 100 meter freestyle relay this result does not repeat, as he was disqualified in the relay in the flow. But he swam in the run for the Dutch 4 × 100 meter medley relay, the Fourth was the end.

In Athens in 2004 he won the silver medal over 4 × 100 meter freestyle his only Olympic medal. He started in the flow instead of Pieter van den Hoogenband, who had spared for the final.

The Short Course European Championships 1998 in Sheffield, 2003 in Dublin, and in 2005 in Trieste, he improved with the Dutch 4 x 50 meter freestyle relay, the European record three times. Also on the long course he could with the Dutch 4 × 100 meter freestyle relay, setting up a new European record for the European Swimming Championships in Istanbul in 1999 and at the World Swimming Championships in Fukuoka in 2001.
