Markku Salminen

Markku Salminen Erik ( born September 9, 1946 in Kokkola, † January 6, 2004 in Järvenpää ) was a Finnish orientation and long distance runners.

Salminen was founded in 1967 for the first time Finnish champion in orienteering. He came then to his first international assignments. He was second in 1967 at the Nordic Championships in Denmark, 1968 Vice World Champion in Sweden with the Finnish relay. 1969 succeeded in Season 3 with Finland Tuomo Peltola, Markku Salminen, Matti Mäkinen and Raimo Nissi surprisingly winning the title at the Nordic Championships. With the club Helsingin Suunnistajat Salminen won in 1970 for the first time Jukola. With his later association Järvenpään Palo he could win the Jukola 1978 again. At the World Championships in orienteering Markku Salminen won in 1974 and 1976 again a silver and a bronze medal in the relay race. His best individual result it reached in 1976 with a fifth.

In long-distance running Markku Salminen early 1970s, celebrated his greatest successes.
