Marko Pomerants

Marko Pomerants (* September 24 1964 in Tamsalu ) is an Estonian politician. He was from April 2003 to April 2005 Minister of Social Affairs of the Republic of Estonia. Since June 2009, the Estonian Minister of the Interior. He joined the Conservative Party Isamaa yes to Res Publica Liit (IRL ).

Life and Politics

Marko Pomerants visited until 1982, the school in Tamsalu. In 1989 he completed his studies in geology at the University of Tartu. 1989/1990 Pomerants was Deputy Director of the Office of Conservation of Rakvere. Subsequently, he was from 1990 to 1994 Head of Unit for Nature Conservation in the management of the county Lääne- Virumaa. 1994/95, he held the same authority the post of head of department for environmental protection. From 1995 to 2003 Pomerants was District President of Lääne- Virumaa.

In 2002 he received his master's degree in management science. In the same year he joined the party Res Publica.

2003 Pomerants was elected as a deputy of Res Publica in the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ). Between April 2003 and April 2005, he was Minister of Social Affairs in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Juhan Parts. After his retirement from the office of minister Pomerants was 2005-2009 again deputy in the Estonian Parliament.

After the end of May 2009, leaving the government of Prime Minister Andrus Ansip, the Social Democrats, Pomerants was appointed by President Ilves to the Minister of the Interior on June 3. Pomerants resigned the office on the following day.

Private life

Marku Pomerants is married to Riina Pomerants. The couple has two sons.
