Markus Toivonen

Markus Toivonen ( born 1979 ) is a Finnish metal guitarist, and founding and active member of the Finnish Viking metal band Ensiferum.

Biography

Before Ensiferum he played in the band Dark Reflections, mainly coverte groups like Megadeth or Pantera. In addition to Ensiferum he was not involved in comedic progressive metal band Speden Timantit.

At the foundation of Ensiferum Toivonen was the initiator after it had not inspired by Dark Reflections membership. He also showed great interest in folk music, as well as melodic death metal bands like Amorphis and Dark Tranquillity, he cites later in the booklet for the album Ensiferum alongside Iron Maiden, Manowar and Judas Priest as musical influences. Toivonen then asked the drummer of Dark Reflections, Kimmo Miettinen, if he wanted to start a band with him. Miettinen agreed, while later came Sauli Savolainen to the band and the occupation with the second guitarist and vocalist Jari Mäenpää was completed.

In the publications by Ensiferum be Toivonen is mainly responsible for guitars. However it occurs, especially after the departure of Mäenpää as a singer for the clear and background vocals on. He also plays occasional percussion instruments, such as the song Goblins ' Dance on beer bottles on the album Ensiferum.
