Marley & Me (film)

Marley & Me is the film adaptation of the book by John Grogan from the year 2008. Directed by David Frankel. The film had on March 5, 2009 in Germany premiere.

Action

The journalists - couple Jenny and John Grogan from Michigan decides to leave the cold winter behind and move south to Palm Beach. There, buy a house and the two are soon faced with the question whether they are ready to have children. In particular, since John himself is not quite sure, they decide that parenting and family life once " try " with a dog. This leads to the purchase of a Labrador Retriever puppy, John called in honor of Bob Marley's Marley. This is a beloved family member, is organizing the big mess. The animal trainer is desperate and throws Marley from the course.

The film follows the next few years the couple: marriage proceedings are over, children born and Marley accompanied the family as a loyal friend. John takes a job near Philadelphia. However, the family of five has to realize slowly that Marley has become old and weak. The parents prepare children to suggest that Marley will not live long.

In Philadelphia, John meets his former friend and colleague Sebastian again, who has taken a different path in life: he made career as a journalist and leading an independent and exciting life without girlfriend with constantly changing partners. Both insure their mutual respect and then go their separate ways.

Marley has again stomach problems and the vet advises John Marley lull, which he does. Marley was buried in the garden and John remembers the years together and the unconditional love of the animal to him.

Background / Origin

The film is based on the book by John Grogan. In his autobiographical Family and Dog novel, he describes not only the pranks and peculiarities of the dog, he also portrays the emotional bonds between dogs and humans.

The film was produced by Fox 2000 Pictures and distributed by 20th Century Fox Film Corporation.

In addition to Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston, Eric Dane and Alan Arkin play ( Little Miss Sunshine, Inspector Clouseau ). For a brief appearance as a dog trainer has Kathleen Turner ( The War of the Roses ). In this scene also author Grogan and his wife have a brief cameo.
