Marlon Jordan

Marlon Jordan ( born August 21, 1970 in New Orleans) is an American jazz trumpeter.

Life and work

Jordan comes from a musical family; saxophonist Kidd Jordan is his father, and his older brother Kent Jordan is also a jazz musician. He first received saxophone and violin lessons and also played the drums before switching to trumpet in the fourth grade. In addition to his studies at the Center for the Creative Arts in his native city and private lessons, he completed summer courses at Tanglewood. 1986/1987 he performed as a soloist with the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra. A little later he took part in recordings of his brother. Already at the age of eighteen, he presented his debut album For You Only, for which he received good reviews as both also had a chart success. With his hard bop quintet he played as the opening act before Wynton Marsalis, George Benson and Miles Davis; with this band, he also appeared in major American and European festivals. In 1991, he joined the All-Star Band Jazz Futures at Roy Hargrove and Benny Green. In 2005, he was with his sister Stephanie Jordan as "ambassadors of New Orleans " on a European tour. Jordan is also active as a composer of film music and also took on with Dennis González and Donald Harrison.
