Maroondah Dam

The Maroondah Reservoir is a small reservoir in the southern Australian state of Victoria in the course of the Watts River, which is used for drinking water supplies of Melbourne.

The approximately 50 km north-east of the center of Melbourne at Healesville navigable lake was created in the 1920s by the Melbourne and Metropolitan Board of Works and has a gravity wall of concrete. The lake is 2 km ². He is now operated by the successor organization Melbourne Water.

As with other reservoirs of drinking water supplies of Melbourne is the entire catchment area that lies completely in the Yarra Ranges National Park, planted with eucalyptus forest and, like the lake itself, completely closed to public use. Directly below the dam is the Maroondah Reservoir Park, an English-style garden, which contains many exotic plants that are very different from the surrounding vegetation.

A hiking trail leads over the spillway of the dam up to a lookout point from which you can overlook the entire lake.
