Marpessa Dawn

Marpessa Dawn ( born January 3, 1934 in Pittsburgh, † August 25, 2008 in Paris) was an American actress.

The dark-skinned young woman worked as a dancer and mid-1950s was discovered in France for the film.

They played their biggest and most important role in Orfeu Negro beside Breno Mello. This performance was critics as the beginning of a major film career, but remained out of the deals, which is why it was only rarely ( there also in some series) to see at the cinema or television. Thus, their roles mostly limited to cameo appearances or small supporting roles.

They also sang records, so among other things, " Manhã de Carnaval " from Orfeu Negro. After some adorned front pages due to the film success, ebbed the public interest in Dawn from more and more.

Dawn has been married twice and mother of five children. She died in 2008 at the age of 74 of a heart attack, only six weeks after her castmates Breno Mello.
