Marshal of the Russian Federation

Service uniform / field service uniform

Marshal of the Russian Federation (Russian Маршал Российской Федерации, en: Marshal Rossijskoj Federazii, english Marshal of the Russian Federation ) is the highest military rank of Russia.

History

The launch took place on 11 February 1993 as a result of the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The rank follows immediately above General of the Army or the Commodore ( in translations occasionally Admiral of the Fleet ) and is in its understanding in the tradition of succession to Marshal of the Soviet Union during the Soviet era.

Rank Description

The Marshal of the Russian Federation is set higher in rank than the Army General ( four- star general, OF- 9), Colonel-General ( here three- star general, OF- 8), Lieutenant General ( here two- star general, ORF -7 ), and finally Major General ( here one-star general, OF- 6). However, this ranking would also be comparable to Field marshal or General of the Army of the U.S. Armed Forces.

The only Russian officer who was admitted to this rank so far, was the former Minister of Defense Igor Dmitrievich Sergeyev, who was previously army general and commander of the Strategic Missile Forces.

The distinction is similar to the Marshal of the Soviet Union. Where the Soviet coat of arms was replaced by the Russian double-headed eagle. The characteristic Marshal star, as a sign of the highest-ranking officer, was preserved.
