Marta Ptaszynska

Marta Ptaszyńska ( born March 29, 1943 in Warsaw) is a Polish composer and music educator.

Ptaszyńska studied at the State Academy of Music in Warsaw composition with Tadeusz Paciorkiewicz and at the State Academy of Music in Poznan percussion Mikolaj Stasiniewicz and Jerzy Zgodzinski, they also took private lessons in composition with Witold Lutosławski. 1968 Master's degree in composition, music theory and percussion. As a fellow of the French Government 1969-70 she studied with Nadia Boulanger and Olivier Messiaen, and electronic music at the ORTF in Paris center. Your training as a percussionist she further refined in working together with you with Cloyd Duff, Richard Weiner and Donald Erb at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she received a diploma in 1974.

From 1970 Ptaszyńska taught first in Warsaw, later, among others at Bennington College in Vermont, the University of California at Berkeley and Santa Barbara and the University of Indiana and gave seminars and guest lectures at other universities and music schools in the United States. 1994 and 1996 she taught at Northwestern University composition and analysis of music of the 20th Century, 1995 she was composer-in- residence at the College Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati. In 1997 she was a visiting professor at the University of Chicago, then a professor of composition at the Indiana University in Bloomington and the University of Chicago.

In 1968 Ptaszyńska the second prize at Komponistenrostrum UNESCO. Three times (1974, 1976 and 1987 ), she was honored by the Percussive Arts Society. The Polish Composers Union honored her in 1988 with a medal. Her compositions have been at numerous international festivals (including the Schleswig -Holstein Music Festival, the Warsaw Autumn Festival and the Aspen Festival) listed, and musicians such as Yehudi Menuhin, Matthias Bamert, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Keiko Abe, Bertram Turetzky, Nancy Allen, Roman Jablonski and Ewa Podles played premieres of their works.
