Jerzy Maksymiuk

Jerzy Maksymiuk ( born April 9, 1936 in Grodno ) is a Polish conductor.

He studied at the State Academy of Music in Warsaw composition with Piotr Perkowski ( until 1962 ), piano with Jerzy Lefeld ( until 1964 ), Bogusław Madey at Dirigentur (up to 1969). 1970-1972 he was conductor at the Opera Theater of Warsaw, from 1972 head of the group of musicians from the Warsaw Chamber Opera, renamed in 1973 in Polish Chamber Orchestra and Sinfonia Varsovia in 1974.

From 1973, he was with the Great Symphony Orchestra of the Polish Radio in 1981 on tour with the Polish Chamber Orchestra in Japan, Australia, New Zealand, the USA and Germany from 1983 to 1993 Head of the Scottish Symphony Orchestra in Glasgow. In 1991, he led Mozart's " Don Giovanni " and 1993 Johann Strauss' "Die Fledermaus " at the English National Opera.

Jerzy Maksymiuk was a member of the Warsaw Schedule Commission of the autumn festivals of contemporary music works. He received in 1990 an honorary doctorate from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow and in 1993 the title of Conductor Laureate BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
