Martha Mercader

Martha Mercader ( born February 27, 1926 in La Plata, Argentina, † 17 February 2010) was an Argentine writer, journalist, playwright and filmmaker and politician. She was known primarily for her novel Juana Manuela, mucha mujer about the life of Juana Manuela Gorriti, an Argentine writer of the 19th century, of which up to now more than 100,000 units have been sold and experiencing the still new editions.

Life

Martha Mercader was at the Escuela Normal Nacional Mary O. Graham in La Plata for the teacher, trained ( completion 1944). Then she graduated to 1948, a study of English language and literature for teaching at secondary schools at the Facultad de Humanidades the Universidad Nacional de La Plata and earned 1949/1950 at the University of London, a diploma for teaching English as a foreign language. From 1948 to 1959 she taught English at various high schools. 1953 she completed training as an English translator at the Law Faculty of the Universidad Nacional de La Plata from entitled " Traductora Pública Nacional " ( judicially sworn translator ). Later she translated about 20 books from English and several from the French for various publishers. She also worked as a journalist for newspapers, magazines, radio and television. From 1963 to 1966 she held the position of a directorâ de Cultura de la Provincia de Buenos Aires. From 1984 to 1989 she was head of the school Colegio Mayor Argentino " Nuestra Señora de Luján " in Madrid, under the Argentine Ministry of Education. From 1993 to 1997 she was deputy in the Cámara de la Nación of Deputies for the party Unión Cívica Radical.
