Martín de Aldehuela

José Martín de Aldehuela ( born November 5, 1729 Manzanera, province of Teruel, Aragon, † September 7, 1802 in Málaga ) was a Spanish architect and builder.

Some of his most important buildings are the Plaza de Toros in Ronda, Spain, and a water supply in Málaga, which became known as the aqueduct of San Telmo. The construction of this project was extended from financial difficulties of the customer.

Its probably the biggest and at the same time last masterpiece is the New bridge in Ronda over the Tajo Gorge. Its construction lasted 40 years. She was so impressive that according to some sources the master crashed shortly after completion of the bridge, because he believed such a building never be able to build again. It is certain that he died in Ronda 1802. Most sources report that he fell from the bridge, but whether this was an accident or suicide, or whether both variants are legends, can no longer be cleared today.
