Martin de Redin
Fra ' Martin de Redin y Cruzat (* 1590, † February 6, 1660 ) was dated 17 August 1657 to his death in the 58th Grand Master of the Order of Malta.
He came from a Spanish noble family and was a member before his election as Grand Master of the Order of the Aragonese tongue.
Although he died after a reign of only two and a half years, under his aegis along the Maltese coast thirteen towers, known as De Redin Towers were built. Already his predecessor in the office of Grand Master Jean de Lascaris - Castellar (r. 1636-1657 ) had begun with the construction of such towers.
Redin established a regular standing army with a man - strength of 4,000 musketeers.
By Redins good relationships with Sicily Malta was able to import from there food and thus improve the barren lot of the population at that time.
