Martin Farquhar Tupper

Martin Farquhar Tupper ( born July 17, 1810 in London, † November 1889 in Albury, Surrey ) was an English author and poet.

Life

Martin Tupper came from a Huguenot family. He studied law and theology at Christ Church College in Oxford.

His main work is Proverbial Philosophy, a written in blank verse moral teaching.

Tupper is known not least because Karl Marx had his name entered in the autograph album of his daughter next to violet powder in the category " dislike ".
