Martin H. Kennelly

Martin Henry Kennelly ( born August 11, 1887 in Chicago, Illinois, † November 29, 1961 ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party and Mayor of Chicago.

Life

The son of a product originating in Ireland and died in 1889 a worker in a factory packaging for food closed in 1905 his education at De La Salle Institute in Chicago from. During the First World War he did his military service in the U.S. Army and left this with the rank of captain.

On 15 April 1947 he was the successor of Edward Joseph Kelly as mayor of Chicago. During his tenure, the population peaked in 1950 with 3.62 million residents. In 1951 he was re-elected as mayor for a second four-year term of office. On April 20, 1955 Richard J. Daley followed him in the office of mayor.
