Martin Luther was a German historical film by Karl Wüstenhagen from 1923, which at times under the title of Martin Luther - was announced, the fight of his life. The film is considered lost.

Not much is known about the film plot. In the center of the plot of the film was the life and work of Martin Luther. The obligatory theses was discussed.

Background

The film was produced by Luther -Film GmbH, Dusseldorf. The Evangelical Church supported the project, with the help of advice when mastering the script and by the distribution of the film, by the Protestant images chamber. Presentation was held the film for the first time in 1923 in Munich. This demonstration, however, was only intended to be representative of the press. Therefore, a first public performance at Wartburg took place in the same year. The film was indeed Luther repeatedly demonstrated publicly, but usually in an abbreviated form. The audience was partially unenthusiastic. The same was true of the film critic and for the theologians.

The silent film Martin Luther is probably not survived. The same applies to the censorship cards with the intertitles and the screenplay of PA short. However, the manuscript of Walther Nithack - Stahn has been preserved. The manuscript, which was probably not implemented in all respects, was well again in the film version Luther - used a film of the German Reformation. Similarly as in the manuscript Luther appears in the film version of 1927, the Archangel Michael.
