Martin Wiegele

Martin Wiegele ( born July 11, 1978 in Graz) is an Austrian professional golfer.

Career

After a very successful amateur career internationally Wiegele hit 2003 career as a golfer and took the Challenge Tour in his first season in 2003 in a storm. He almost won his first European Tour tournament in which he took part, the BMW Russian Open, but lost in the play-off against Marcus Fraser and finished second. Wiegele qualified as 4 of the Challenge Tour money list for the Elite League ( European Tour 2004), but could not succeed there and lost his eligibility to play. As a consequence, he took great technical changes in attack. In August 2007, he achieved his first major tournament victory as a professional - at the Lexus Open, an event of the Challenge Tour. In November of the same year Wiegele won the Tour School Final over six rounds in the Spanish San Roque Club and thus qualified sovereign for the European Tour's 2008 season. He won in 2010 for the first time on the European Tour and qualified in 2011 with the 83rd overall place in the Race to Dubai. Having a cam impingement and associated hip arthritis was diagnosed for the tour season 2012 on both hips to Wiegele underwent early 2012 two complicated operations by means of arthroscopy, which at the earliest will be given a comeback in fall 2012.

His first major international success came in 2004 at the prestigious Wiegele WGC - World Cup in Seville, when he reached a 5th place for Austria with partner Markus Brier. After the first day the two had even in the lead, in the end they shared a prize of $ 135,000. In June 2010, he won the St Omer Open his first tournament on the European Tour and cashed this a prize money of 100,000 euros.

Martin Wiegele has been married to his wife Claudia since December 2011.
