Martti Korhonen

Martti Korhonen Allan ( born February 27, 1953 in Oulu) is a Finnish politician ( Left Alliance ).

The trained auto mechanic was elected in 1984 for the Democratic Union of the Finnish people ( SKDL ) in the City Council of Oulu. In 1988 he was one of the electors of the Liike 88 who supported the candidacy Kalevi Kivistös. Korhonen 1991 first elected to the Finnish parliament. The SKDL was now absorbed into the newly formed Left Alliance. From 1995 to 1998 he was Vice-Chairman of the Left Alliance, after which he resigned in the election on to the party presidency, but was defeated Suvi -Anne Siimes. In the cabinet Lipponen II, which held office from 1999 to 2003, he served as Minister of Regional and Local Affairs. In 2006 he was elected party leader of the Left Alliance, but resigned after the poor showing of the party back in the 2009 European elections. His successor was Paavo Arhinmäki.

Korhonen, who likes to ride in his spare time rally and sails and is interested in music, was married since 1972 with Riitta Korhonen ( born Tuukkanen ), but who died of cancer in the summer of 2005. He has two sons and lives in Oulu district Koskela since childhood.
