The Finnish Parliament (Finnish eduskunta, Swedish Riksdagen, therefore also German Reichstag ) is a unicameral parliament with 200 members and has its headquarters in Helsinki. President of the Parliament since 23 June 2011, the Social Democrat Eero Heinäluoma.

Constitution

According to the Finnish Constitution represents the Reichstag the people and exercise the legislative power. Suffrage

Entitled to vote are citizens of Finnish nationality aged 18 years; even those who live permanently abroad. Deputies are elected for four years by proportional representation. For the general election Finland is divided into 15 constituencies. The number of members of a constituency is determined by the population, with the exception of Åland, which always presents a deputy. The distribution of seats is based on the D' Hondt method.

2011 election

The most recent election was held on 17 April 2011. Building

The Reichstag building (Finnish Eduskuntatalo, Swedish Riksdagshuset ) is located in central Helsinki on the street Mannerheimintie. The building was designed by the architect Johan Sigfrid Sirén in the neoclassical style. The construction began in 1926, the official opening took place on March 7, 1931.
