Marty Liquori

Martin William " Marty " Liquori ( born September 11, 1949 in Montclair, New Jersey ) is a former American middle and long distance runners.

Life

Liquori attended Essex Catholic High School in Newark, undercutting in his last high school year for the first time the four- minute mark in the mile run. He then moved to the Villanova University and qualified at the age of 19 years for the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. He reached the final in the 1500 -meter run, finished there but after an injury only the twelfth and last place. In 1969 he won the mile run at the high school championships and national championships. 1971 won at the university championships the mile run for the third time in a row and won over 1500 meters at the Pan American Games. Then Liquori was often injured and returned only in 1977 even for a season in the world-class back. He improved this year, twice the U.S. national record in the 5,000 -meter run; the second improvement, he managed the Athletics World Cup in 1977 in Dusseldorf when he latched on to second place behind Miruts Yifter.

After his sporting career Marty Liquori worked among other things as a sports commentator. He participated in the 1986 feature film premiered On the Edge in this role. He also wrote several books and occurs as a jazz guitarist.
