Marubeni

Marubeni KK (Japanese丸 红 株式会社, Marubeni Kabushiki - gaisha; engl Marubeni Corp. . ) Is a Japanese company with its headquarters in Chiyoda, Tokyo.

Marubeni has been working as a commercial enterprise. Around 28,800 employees are employed by the company (as of 2007). Marubeni is historically the general trading company, Sogo Shosha, the keiretsu Mizuho Group at Mizuho Financial Group, formerly the Fuyo Group.

History

Marubeni goes back to the linen trade, founded by Itō Chube 1858 from the sogo shosha Itochu Shoji emerged. K. K. 1918, the two companies Itochu Shoten ( (株)伊藤忠 商店) as a precursor of Marubeni and Itochu Shoji KK (伊藤忠 商 事(株) ) separately. Three years later, in 1921, was Itochu Shoten after the merger with Itō Chobe Shoten (伊藤 长 兵卫 商店), the business of the brother of Itō Chube, renamed Marubeni.

In the Pacific War Marubeni and Itochu 1941 again (along with Kishimoto Shoten ) combined to form a company, Sanko KK (三 兴(株) ), which was called after the merger with another company in 1944 finally Daiken Sangyo (大建 产业).

1949 Daiken Sangyo was shattered and reorganized into four independent companies: On December 1, 1949, the Marubeni KK was in its current form.

Between 1955 and 1972, Marubeni was renamed after the merger with Takashimaya Iida KK ( Fuyo Group) as Marubeni Iida K. K. (English Marubeni - Iida Co., Ltd.).. More mergers occurred in 1966 with the steel trading company totsu KK ( Fuyo Group) and in 1973 with the non-ferrous metal dealer KK Nan'yō Bussan.

In 2003, the headquarters was moved to Chiyoda, Tokyo.

Group

The subsidiaries of Marubeni are organized into five groups, each consisting of two or three departments ( Bumon ): " life needs" ( seikatsu Sangyo ), " material " ( sozai ), 'raw material / energy " ( Shigen enerugī ) ," Machine " ( kikai ) and " Finance / Information / Real Estate ". The company's European headquarters is located in the Japanese business district of Dusseldorf city center.

Marubeni is traded under the Securities Code ( shoken Kodo ) 8002 in the first segment of the stock exchanges in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, and belongs to the Equity Indices Nikkei 225 and TOPIX 100 Among the largest shareholders include (as of 31 March 2009):

  • Songai Hoken Japan K. K. (English Sompo Japan Insurance Inc.), 3.24%,
  • Tōkyō Kaijo Nichido Kasai Hoken (The Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd.)., 2.87%,
  • Meiji Yasuda Seimei Hoken Sogo gaisha ( Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company), 2.49%.
