Mary Black

Mary Black ( May 22nd, 1955 in Dublin) is an Irish singer. She was born into a musical family. Her father was a violinist, her mother, also a singer. Mary Black's sister Frances Black is also a successful singer. Her brothers had their own group. At the age of eight years, Mary sang folk songs, her brother Shay taught her. In her youth she sang in the group of their family.

Career

Mary Black's career began in the Dublin folk clubs. The first solo album, titled Mary Black released in 1983 and reached # 4 on the Irish charts. For this LP they got gold. In 1986, she launched her solo career after she was previously a member of the traditional Irish folk band De Dannan. Mary Black's No Frontiers album, which was released in 1989, rose to the top of the Irish album charts, where it stayed 56 weeks in the Top 30, and achieved triple platinum status. Mary Black is still (2008) an especially popular in Ireland singer. Their musical style ranges from jazz to country music. She has so far (as of April 2007) seven times, get platinum for their solo albums.
