Mary Renault
Mary Renault (actually Eileen Mary Challans, born September 4, 1905 in London, † December 13, 1983 in Cape Town, South Africa) was a British writer.
Life
She studied at Oxford and wrote next to historical novels and historical fiction books, such as a biography of Alexander the Great.
Mary Renault was a lesbian. In 1948 she emigrated to South Africa where she besides their literary work heavily engaged in the fight against apartheid and in the South African section of PEN cooperated.
