Mary Soames, Baroness Soames

Mary Soames, LG, DBE ( born September 15, 1922) is the widow of Christopher Soames, Baron Soames, and the daughter of Sir Winston Churchill.

When Mary Spencer-Churchill was she born as the youngest of five children of Sir Winston Churchill and Clementine Churchill.

During the Second World War, she worked at the British Red Cross, and later in the Auxiliary Territorial Service, where the female soldiers of the British Army were summarized. There, she reached the rank of captain and was used with anti-aircraft batteries in the United Kingdom, Belgium and Germany. Later, she served her father as aide on various trips abroad, including at the Potsdam Conference.

In 1947, she married Christopher Soames. Her husband was a well-known politician of the Conservative Party. Lady Soames lived among other things, in Paris, where her husband had been transferred as a British ambassador in Brussels, where he held the office of Vice - President of the European Commission, and in Rhodesia, where her husband was the last Governor-General with him. The marriage produced five children, including Nicholas Soames, who is also a prominent Member of Parliament of the Conservative Party.

Lady Soames has held numerous honorary positions and is a successful author. Among other things, she wrote a biography of her mother, who has a lot of recognition. She gave out the correspondence of her parents and has the official biographer of her father, Sir Martin Gilbert advised.

After her the second highest level of the Orders of the British Empire had been awarded in 1980, she received the 2005 Order of the Garter, the highest British orders. The investiture took place on 13 June 2005 at the so-called Garter Day at Windsor Castle.
