Mary Youngblood

Mary Youngblood (* in Sacramento, California ) is an American flutist Indian descent ( Aleut / Seminole ).

With their fifth album Dance with the wind they won the 2007 Grammy Award for Best Native American Music Album. She produced Dance With the Wind during winter storms in 2006 in Northern California. Their fourth album Feed the Fire was nominated in 2005 for a Grammy Award. Even Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull, Bill Miller and Joanne Shenandoah were involved in the album. The song Feed the Fire, she devoted her parents. Their third album, Beneath the Raven Moon won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Native American Music Album and was produced by Tom Wasinger. It connects on their album Native American Music with classical music and blues. Their second album Heart of the World, she produced together with Joanne Shenandoah. Heart of the World won the INDIE Award for Best Native American Recording and the 2000 Native American Music Award ( Nammy ) for Best New Age Recording. Her debut album The Offering was taken in an underground chamber of Moaning Cavern in California, with a natural acoustics and amazing echo. Some of their songs are also part of the film Naturally Native ( 1998), produced, written and directed exclusively by Native Americans. They also composed the music for the documentary The Spirit of Sacajawea (2007).

Mary Youngblood plays the piano, violin, flute, guitar and Native flute that is traditionally played only by men. It has over 250 hand-carved Native American Style Flutes and used a variety of them in each of their albums. Mary Youngblood lives in Northern California.

Awards

Mary Youngblood won two Grammy Awards for Best Native American Music Album and the INDIE Award for Best Native American Recording. She won six times the Native American Music Award ( Nammy ) and others for Best New Age Recording, as Best Female Artist, Flutist of the Year and Best Producer.
