Masaaki Kanda

Masaaki Kanda (Japanese神 田 真 秋, Masaaki Kanda, born October 1, 1951 in Ichinomiya, Aichi Prefecture) is a Japanese politician and served from 1999 to 2011 Governor of Aichi Prefecture.

Kanda studied law at Chuo University. From 1976 he worked as a lawyer in Nagoya. From 1991 to 1998 he was mayor of his home town of Ichinomiya. In 1999, he won the gubernatorial election with the support of all major parties except the JCP at the first attempt after Reiji Suzuki no longer took up after 16 years in office, to devote himself to the preparation of the Expo 2005. In his third re-election in 2007 Kanda prevailed with the support of the LDP and DPJ of Kōmeitō against the SDP and the New Party Japan -based Yoshihiro Ishida ( Mayor of Inuyama ). 2011 Kanda did not occur again, as his successor, the former LDP Shūgiin MPs Hideaki Omura has been selected.

From 1999 until the suspension of operations in 2006 was Kanda CEO of Tōkadai Shin- Kotsu KK, the operating company of the People Movers Peach liner, which was 46 % owned by the Aichi Prefecture.
