The project went on: The New Party lost two of its three House seats.

A year later, the party chairman Tanaka lost the gubernatorial election in Nagano. He won the single seat upper house of the New Party Japan in the Upper House elections in 2007. With three percent of proportional representation votes, the party secured thereby also for six years the legal status as a political party if she was represented by at least one deputy in the national parliament.
