Masahiro Ishii

Masahiro Ishii (Japanese石井 正弘, Masahiro Ishii; born November 29, 1945 in Okayama, Okayama Prefecture) is a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party ( LDP) and MP in the House of Lords. From 1996 to 2012, he was governor of Okayama.

Ishii graduated in 1969 graduated from the Law Faculty of the University of Tokyo and officer was then in the Ministry of Construction. In 1996 he ended his official career and turned to politics than to Okayama Governor Shiro Nagano Prefecture retired to his home after 24 years out of office.

In the gubernatorial election in October 1996, Ishii had the support of Liberal Democratic Party. The most important opposition candidate was the NFP -based former national deputy Satsuki Eda, also stood as a candidate a communist and nationalist Independent Kiyoshi Tsujiyama, who began later than "permanent candidate" yet in many prefectural and municipal elections. With a relatively high turnout of 62 percent Ishii was not quite 6,000 votes ( 0.6 % share) more than its competitor Eda. Since then, he was re-elected three times, with broad support from the major parties in each case to only a CPY -based challenger. At the gubernatorial election in 2012 he retired to his successor Ryuta Ibaragi was chosen.

In the Upper House election in 2013 Ishii ran in Okayama ( a mandate per election ) for the LDP with Kōmeitō support. With 65.5 % of the vote, he sat down significantly against the former House of Representatives Takashi Takai (independent with the support of the DPJ, SDP and Midori no Kaze ), who received 24.1% of votes, and two other candidates.
