Masao Harada

Masao Harada (Japanese原田 正 夫, born September 22, 1912 in Kyoto, † January 22, 2000 in Yokohama ) was a Japanese athlete who had specialized in the triple jump.

Harada's greatest sporting achievements was winning the silver medal in the triple jump at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. With a jump of 15.66 meters in the last attempt he secured second place behind compatriot Naoto Tajima and before the Australian Jack Metcalfe. Tajima had already taken in the first round with 15.76 m the lead and jumped in the fourth attempt with 16,00 m a new world record. Metcalfe was with a jump of 15.50 m from the first attempt in second place before the end Harada still pushed past him.

Previously, Harada had won already in the Far East Championships 1934 in Manila silver medals in the triple and long jump as well as a bronze medal in the long jump at the World Student Games in 1935 in Budapest. His personal bests were 7.59 m in the long jump (1934 ) and 15.73 m in the triple jump ( 1939). He was 1.77 meters tall and weighed to its active time 60 kg.
