Masataka Shimizu

Masataka Shimizu (Japanese清水 正 孝, Masataka Shimizu, born June 23, 1944 in Kanagawa Prefecture ) is a Japanese manager and was ( shachō torishimariyaku ) from 2008 to 2011 president of the energy company Tōkyō Denryoku ( TEPCO ) and a Vice President of the Japanese Economic - and the employers' association Nippon Keidanren.

Prior to his appointment as President of TEPCO as the successor of Tsunehisa Katsumata Shimizu was since 1968 in different position working for the company, most recently as managing director since 2004 and since 2006 as Vice President. As president, he initiated the first capital of the company by issuing new shares for 29 years. Result, the company will put in a position to invest in nuclear power and other measures to reduce CO2 emissions and to take part in foreign energy projects.

In July 2010, Shimizu was elected to the Board of the World Association of Nuclear Operators ( WANO ).

As his personal motto and part of his management philosophy called Shimizu kankyakka (看 脚下), a well-known expression of Zen Buddhism, the " pay attention to what is under your feet " about means.

After a press conference on March 13, 2011, two days after the beginning of the series of accidents at the nuclear power plant in Fukushima I, Masataka Shimizu has not been seen for a while in public; his absence was explained by disease. Because of the incidents and the associated losses of billions of TEPCO Shimizu's resignation was demanded by various parties.
