Mashonaland

Mashonaland is the main settlement area of ​​the Shona in Zimbabwe. Today it is divided into three provinces and the capital district: Mashonaland West, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East and Harare. The provincial capitals are Chinhoyi, Bindura and Marondera.

Mashonaland as a whole comprises very different areas. In the north, between the Zambezi and a line Kaori -Mount Darwin is little fertile, mountainous terrain of the way, that's up to the reserves and wildlife sanctuaries until today. South of this line is intensively used arable land with rivers that provide irrigation economy. Here tobacco, corn, wheat, cotton are grown, as well as citrus fruit. On the line Bindura - Harare Kadoma is the Great Dyke, a geological fracture and a watershed, located on the numerous mines, where gold, iron, chromium, copper and other metals are mined, but also diamonds and numerous semi-precious stones.

Is dominated politically Mashonaland by the ZANU -PF of Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe, who is Shona.
