Match of the Day

Match of the Day (also MotD ) is an English football telecast. The program is broadcast every Saturday during the English football championship. MotD shows highlights from the English top flight. Furthermore, the program is broadcast on weekdays at Wednesday rounds, FA Cup matches or national games. The show is one of the longest broadcast BBC broadcasts.

History

1960

The first broadcast football game was the championship game between Arsenal and Liverpool in August 1964. Viewership was only 20,000, because BBC2 could only be received in London at the time.
