Mateo Gil

Mateo Gil Rodríguez ( born September 23, 1972 in Las Palmas ) is a Spanish screenwriter and film director.

Mateo Gil worked repeatedly with Alejandro Amenábar, with whom he established a personal friendship.

  • Gil was recognized in 1998 on the Alcalá de Henares Short Film Festival for Allanamiento de morada with the City of Alcalá Award. That same year he was awarded the Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente de Ourense for the film to Canal Audience Award. On the Festival Internacional de Cinema do Algarve and the Montréal World Film Festival Mateo and the film were nominated for other prizes.
  • Together with Alejandro Amenábar Mateo Gil won in 2005 the Goya for Best Original Screenplay for The Sea Inside ( Mar adentro ). The year before, the pair of authors for the film has been nominated for a European Film Award. Another nomination for a CEC Award for Best Original Screenplay, the film received from the Spanish Circulo de Escritores Cinematográficos
  • 2006 won Mateo Gil, together with Marcelo Piñeyro for El Método for best screenplay based on a novel of the CEC Award and a Goya.
