Mateus (wine)

Mateus Rosé is a semi- dry to sweet, slightly sparkling and rosé wine from Portugal. As a mass of wine are annually 50 million bottles, which are sold primarily through supermarkets, sold in 125 countries.

Fernando Van Zeller Guedes, a Vinho Verde winemakers from Vila Real in the Douro Valley, brought in 1942, the Mateus Rosé in the characteristic bulbous bottle, which was inspired by the shape of the canteens of the First World War, to the market. He borrowed the name of the wine from Mateus Palace near Vila Real, which is still shown on the label of Mateus. The main production of Mateus Rosé will take place today in Anadia Bairrada wine region.
