Mathew Moolakkattu

Mathew Moolakkattu OSB ( born February 27, 1953 in Uzhavoor ) is an Indian priest and Archbishop of Kottayam.

Life

Mathew Moolakkattu received on 27 December 1978, the priesthood, joined the Congregation of the Benedictine and passed the profession in 1994. John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop on 6 November 1998 in Kottayam and Titular Bishop of Hólar.

He received his episcopal consecration, the Pope personally on 6 January of the next year; Co-consecrators were Giovanni Battista Re, substitute of the Secretariat of State, and Francesco Monte Risi, secretary of the Congregation for Bishops and the College of Cardinals.

On August 29, 2003, he was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Kottayam. With the elevation to archeparchy on 12 May 2005 he was appointed Koadjutorerzbischof of Kottayam. After the retirement Kuriakose Kunnacherrys he followed him on 14 January 2006 after the Archbishop of Kottayam.
