Mathieu Grosch

Jean Hubert Mathieu Grosch ( born September 14, 1950 in Eupen ) is a Belgian politician and member of the German Christian Social Party (CSP). Since 1994 he is a member of the European Parliament.

Life

Grosch studied German at the University of Liege and graduated in 1973 with the licentiate. In 1974 he received his accreditation for teaching in high school and then worked as an English and German teacher until 1981.

From 1981 to 1983 Grosch acted as advisor to the then Prime Minister Wilfried Martens and worked from 1984 to 1986 in the cabinet of Prime Minister of the German-speaking Community (DG) Joseph Maraite. From 1984 to 1985 he was a member of the Provincial Council of the Province of Liège, and then from 1986 to 1994 a member of the Council of the German-speaking Community, which he chaired from 1990 to 1994. In addition, Grosch in 1986 appointed Minister of Social Affairs, Sports and Youth in the Government of the German-speaking Community and held this office until 1990. In his capacity as Member of the European Parliament he meets since 1994, the Parliament of the German-speaking Community with consultative voice.

1994 Penny was selected as the sole deputy from the German electoral district of Belgium to the European Parliament in 1999, 2004 and 2009 re-elected for this mandate. 2009 took his party only 32.2 percent in favor, while she reached five years ago still 42.4 percent. He is a member of the Group of the European People's Party and European Democrats, and the Committee on Transport and Tourism and the Delegation to the EU -Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee. From 1991 to December 2012 was Grosch mayor of La Calamine. He is also a member of the Robert Schuman Foundation and since 1996 member of the board of the airport Liège.

For his services Grosch has won several awards. He received in 1999 the title of Commander of the Order of Leopold, 1999, the Medal of Merit of the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion and 2004, the Federal Cross of Merit 1st class of the Federal Republic of Germany awarded him.

Penny is married and father of three children.
