Matilda Howell

Matilda Scott " Lida " Howell ( born August 28, 1859December 20, 1939 ) was an American archer.

Howell began her athletic career in the late 1870s. After she became champion in 1881 and 1882 the State of Ohio, she won a total of 18 American championship 1883-1907. In 1895 she set a high score, which was only broken in 1931.

At the Olympic Games in 1904 in St. Louis archery was the only sport in which women were admitted. Howell won three gold medals; in the Double National Round, in the Columbia Double Round and Round in the team ( team classification ). It is the first three -time Olympic gold medalist ever.
