Matt Aitken (special effects artist)

Matt Aitken is a VFX supervisor, who in 2010 was nominated for the movie District 9 for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

Life

He studied at the Victoria University of Wellington, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. After that he went to London, where in the area, he made computer graphics at Middlesex University's Master of Science. In 1994 he went to the fledgling company Weta Digital, where he worked on films such as digital effects The Frighteners and contact in the area. 2001 to 2003 he worked in the film adaptation of The Lord of the Rings trilogy as a supervisor in the area of ​​digital models.

This was followed by movies like Bridge to Terabithia, The Day the Earth Stood Still and District 9, where he worked respectively as a VFX supervisor. For the movie District 9, he was nominated in 2010 for the visual effects Oscar for the best.

He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Visual Effects Society.
