Matthias Guggenberger

Matthias Guggenberger (* 24 September 1984 ) is an Austrian skeleton driver.

Guggenberger has been a permanent member of the Austrian national team since 2006. He was able to drive the same in 11th place in his World Cup debut in Igls. In Winterberg he reached with a seventh place shortly after his first place in the top 10, he is one of the fastest athletes at the start. Guggenberger is Austrian Junior Champion as well as Tyrolean champion in 2006. After a serious health setback in the spring of 2006, he struggled with his successful coaching staff ( Mario Guggenberger, Christian Steger, Roland Hochfilzer, and Martin Rettl ) back to the top.

In his first European Championship Guggenberger went from rank 17 in the first run with the fastest time in the second run on the excellent 6th place. Thus Guggenberger confirmed in his first WC season that he is able to get into the top ten. After Rank 11 in Innsbruck and rank 7 in Winterberg, he crowned the season finale with the 6 EM square and the 8 WC place in Koenigssee. Also at the Junior World Championships he went into the top five.
