Matti Sippala

Matti Sippala (born 11 March 1908 in Hollola; † August 22, 1997 in Kotka ) was a Finnish javelin thrower, who was successful in the early 1930s.

He won two silver medals in international competitions.

  • At the Olympic Games 1932 in Los Angeles, he came in the very first attempt of the qualifying excellent 68.14 m. In the final he first showed with two throws over 62.98 m and 61.22 m, a descending power curve before him in the last try was his best distance of 69.80 meters. He won behind the towering Matti Järvinen, three times surpassing the 70 m mark, the silver medal before the third Finns Eino Penttilä, with the 68.70 m was "only" at number three, although he and two other litters over 66, 36 m and 65.40 m had a higher output stability as shown Sippala.
