Mátyás Laáb

Mátyás laab, also: Matijaš laab (* 1746 in Bezenye; † August 7, 1823 in Neudorf bei Parndorf ) was a Burgenland-Croatian Catholic priest, writer and translator. His main work is the first translation of the New Testament to the Burgenland Croatian.

Laab was in Pallersdorf (Croatian: Bizonja ) born. In 1790 he was a chaplain in Sigleß. Later he was pastor of small Andrae ( Hidegség, Vedešin ). From 1797 until his death he was pastor in Neudorf (Novo Selo ).

Between 1814 and 1820 he wrote two catechisms. Mátyás LAABS goal was the reform of the Burgenland- Croatian language, so he began translating the Bible. In 1812 he presented his translation of the bishop in Zagreb, but it was not printed.
