Maulach

BW

The Maulach arises in the region west of the hamlet of the same name, and flows north of Jagstheim from left to the Jagst.

Geography

The headwaters of the Maulach unite fan- west of the hamlet of Crailsheim - Maulach in a very shallow depression, one from the north from the area of the Western Reußenbergs, one from the west of Crailsheim - Heinke Busch, the longest of the Southwest has its origin in the northern part of the castle mountain forest. Over the next nearly four miles up the Maulach flows in very broad Wiesenaue and accompanied by the Hohenlohe Railway to east-southeast, initially on the eponymous hamlet over. Then it passes under the railway line south of Roßfeld, and it flows to her from the Lord right Bach. A little later she bends around to the south, at the point arises only a stone's throw to the left of her in the wide floodplain that her one and a half kilometers long parallel Dornwasenbächle, with which they then combined. Shortly thereafter, on settlement boundary of the village Onolzheim, the only major settlement on its banks, flows from the right Aspenbächle. It passes through the village, turning in another run more and more to the east, divided for one kilometers in two parallel arms and finally flows between Jacob Castle and Stöckenhof from the west in the coming from the south Jagst.

Its catchment area is in the shape of an expiring wedge to the southeast; it is much wider than the right to the left. Your headwaters drained large parts of the Reußenbergs and especially the castle mountain forest, in the lower reaches but they harass the female Jagst and the south flowing parallel Speltach. West competes for Buhler flowing, not far from their own sources springing Schmerach.

The Maulach flows in the Middle Keuper, mostly in gypsum Keuper ( grave field formation ), and shows Danubian flow direction. The Valley of Maulach falls morphologically in the surrounding countryside hardly noticeable.

The Maulach runs entirely within the boundaries of the city of Crailsheim.

Attractions and buildings

  • The castle mountain forest of origin of all inflows to the right Maulach, is a popular hiking area. From the tower on Castle Hill, a large part of the catchment area is to survey.
  • To the north of the hamlet Maulach is the gypsum eroded landscape of Reußenbergs, a mostly wooded, very restless hill landscape, characterized by marshy hollows and pools filled with Dolineneinbrüchen.
  • At the mouth of Mr. Bach south of Roßfeld lie the ruins of the moated castle Flügelau, the terrain profile clearly visible.
