Maurice Emmanuel

Marie François Maurice Emmanuel ( born 2 May 1862 in Bar-sur -Aube, † December 14, 1938 in Paris) was a French musicologist, music teacher and composer.

Life

Maurice Emmanuel studied at the Paris Conservatory with Augustin Savard, Théodore Dubois (harmony ), Léo Delibes (composition) and Louis -Albert Bourgault - Ducoudray ( music history ). He also attended lectures in classical philology and art history at the Sorbonne. 1904 to 1907 he was Kapellmeister at Ste Clotilde, after which he worked until 1936 as a teacher of music history at the conservatory.

Emmanuel composed three operas, two symphonies and a symphonic poem, a suite française, an overture, chamber music and vocal works.
