Maurice Motamed

Maurice Motamed (Persian موریس معتمد; * 1945) is an Iranian politician Jewish faith, who represented the Iranian Jews in Parliament from 2000 to 2008. His successor was Ciamak Moresadegh. Since the Constitutional Revolution of 1906, the Jewish Minortät is entitled to a seat in Parliament. As a result of the parliamentary elections in Iran in 2012 represent the Jews, three members, a total of the remaining four religious minorities 11

Professional life

Maurice Motamed was first elected in 2000 to the Iranian Parliament; his mandate was confirmed in 2004. On a visit to the United States, he assured that it most of the approximately 25,000 Iranian Jews better off than the majority of non-Jewish Iranian population. He also invited the exiled Iranian Jews to return to Iran. He sat down many times for the rights of Jews and Christians in Iran.

The official Iranian position relative to the nuclear program is defended by him. This is to demonstrate the support of the Iranian Jews for the Islamic Republic. To what extent this statement actually corresponds to his view is controversial, since the interview in which this statement was made, had been held under questionable conditions. Motamed is also a member of the Energy Commission of the Majlis.

Against the anti-Israel statements and convened by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Holocaust conference protested Maurice Motamed:
